A center for astronomy was designed as a proposal for the Ujjain Development Authority. The site was adjacent to the Jantar Mantar in Ujjain. It was based on the interpretation of the 18th century astronomical observatory built by Jai Singh and involved an intensive study of Indian astronomy and functioning of the astronomical instruments. The fundamental concept of the design was to make the building function as an astronomical instrument in order to inspire the users and visitors.
